Delhi, or 'Dilli' as it is locally known is the largest city in northern India. The large metropolis area includes urban areas nearby, one of which is the capital city of New Delhi. This vibrant melting pot of humanity is said to be one of the oldest existing cities in the world, alive with historic culture, diversity and an exotic excitement that attracts many tourists every year. It is also an important financial, economic and political hub of India and the entire Asian continent. Many Delhi hotels cater for the influx of both business and leisure visitors to the city.

The city is estimated to be over 5,000 years old with the earliest remains dating back to the 10th century. Delhi's turbulent history saw the rise and fall of many cities under different rulers, each one leaving behind insight into the culture of the time with ruins of fort ramparts, Qutb-ud-din, forts from various epochs, tombs of Lodhi Gardens, city gates and much, much more. Ancient monuments, glittering museums, performing arts and wonderful restaurants make up for the chaos and crush of mechanical and human traffic in this multidimensional city. Today, these areas make up Old Delhi and include World Heritage sites such as the Red Fort, Qutab Minar and humayun's Tomb.

The modern city was built as the imperial capital of India by the British and is commonly termed Lutyen's New Delhi after the architect of the new city. The colonial effects are still felt in the lovely tree-lined streets, bars and cafes. Independence from Britain was declared in the middle of the 20th century and since then, the city has prospered and grown enormously as the capital of India.

The heterogeneous mix of inhabitants comes from all over north and south India including the affluent Punjabis and Bengalis bringing with them varied lifestyles and rich traditions in a mixture of all that is India. The jumble of vernaculars adds to the diversity although the main languages spoken are Hindi, English, Punjabi and Urdu. Geographically, the city is situated on the large flat Gangetic Plain with the Yumana River down the east side and the Aravalli Hills to the west. Old Delhi on the west bank is crowded and congested with a chaotic ambience and where labyrinthine streets pass formidable mosques, forts, temples and colorful bazaars. The climate is one of extremes with extremely hot humid summers with monsoon rains and very cold winters accompanied by thick fog. Autumn and spring, although short are the best time for visitors to make use of Delhi hotels.

Many guests arrive in the city through the overcrowded International airport and the best way to proceed is to make use of hotel's own shuttles or private taxi. Trains and buses also link the city and provide convenient access to the metro. Auto rickshaws, also called three-wheeled scooters and cycle rickshaws are convenient for shorter trips.

Delhi hotels range from hostels centered around the backpackers hub near the bus terminal to fabulous three, four and five star establishments. Many of the cheaper hotels are located in Paharganj Street also known as the Main Bazaar. There is however a shortage of good hotels which has given rise to many bed and breakfast establishments that offers good service and convenient location. The magnificent five star hotels boast beautiful interiors and fabulous service but are very expensive as they are in short supply.

Visitors will find Delhi Hotels set amongst the most alluring shopping and entertainment districts close to Connaught Place, the Presidential Palace and Parliament providing easy access to both business hub and tourists attractions of the city. Stylish guest rooms and suites are decorated in warm earth tones with luxurious sitting and work areas to ensure total comfort and convenience. Luxury Delhi Hotels are equipped with all the modern conveniences and amenities guests could expect from hotels of this class.

Fabulous spas provide time-tested ancient Indian Ayurveda treatments combined with modern technology and equipment to harmonize and balance individual energy. Outdoor swimming pools and gymnasiums are also on offer.

Dining in the city is a treat. Not all Delhi hotels offer dining facilities but the city is well known for some of the best Indian food on the subcontinent. Street food is plentiful with 'chaat' being a favorite tapas-type food. The many international restaurants offer cuisine from around the world that will satisfy the most demanding gourmet. Luxury Delhi hotels offer some of the finest award winning restaurants with plenty of local flavor including Kashmiri food served in eclectic surroundings.

Delhi Hotels also provide meeting facilities with conference centers and ball rooms as well as business services for all guests. Other facilities include internet access throughout the hotel, laundry and dry-cleaning and baby-sitting services, to mention but a few.

The hotels of Delhi provide guests with a wonderful opportunity to experience the fusion of an ancient city teeming with historic significance with a completely modern and vibrant urban center.
